A Sincere & Heartfelt Thank You Note!

Last year in October or early November, I embarked on a personal developmental exercise. Part of it was to work on my voice, articulation and my laziness when it comes to speaking. I meet Adrian in my first session, and I have to tell you it became clear to me from that moment on that I was going to change big time. He highlighted some of the few aspects involved in what I needed help with and then he assigned me a voice coach.

My first impressions of her were not so good, as I felt that she was making me do all silly and childish stuff. But I learnt to relax and allowed her to take me through a journey of discovery. She was very patient with me, she brought back my self-confidence and she made me speak with authority and learn to be assertive. I got excited each week that I was scheduled to see her, it was a whole new world of self-discovery.

I went for a job interview before starting my sessions with the facilitator and I did not get the job. Just after our sessions in December, I got invited to another interview. I went for the interview and I aced it, and I am now permanently employed. I used all the techniques that she taught me, like proper breathing, articulation, enthusiasm, engaging the audience, and making use of icebreakers. I am a Lecturer by profession, so in the interview, I went to I was required to prepare a mini-lesson as if I am in class with difficult students. I started off with the ‘throw-a-ball’ and introduce yourself technique and that got all the panel members to stand on their feet and participate, and they were laughing all the way. I then caught their attention by using the short power point presentation, unlike my normal long and boring slides. The facilitator taught me how to speak from the heart, only guided by a few pointers on the slides. This helped me because I was given only 10 minutes to do my presentation, which was covering about four different learning areas. I cannot stress the importance of enthusiasm enough, in the job interview where I did not get the position I was told that one of the reasons was because I did not show enough drive and vigour for the job. So in my last job interview, I utilised enthusiasm techniques and made the session a two-way interactive process. I ended off by throwing in general knowledge questions, which was a great way of engaging the interview panel.

In summary, I am very grateful to have had a voice coach, she taught me how to be assertive, command attention, enthusiasm, self-confidence, what to say and how to say it.

Thank you, thank you.

Kind regards,
Nwabisa Primrose Ntanjana
